Yesterday, FS7 & I went to the beach for a few hours. I had so much to do - still do. But, he’d wanted to go to the beach & as it was the last long weekend of the summer, I figured...why not? 🌊 I planted my chair closer than normal to the water, because the surf was rough & he had his boogie board. He laughed and yelled and “woo hoo’d” the entire time. There was a dad watching him and he laughed each time FS7 rode a wave “woo hoo’ing” the entire time. The dude may have been laughing *at* him, but FS7 was clueless. Why? Because he was 100% all in and he was having a total blast! 🌊 He had so much fun. It didn’t matter one bit what he looked like, who was watching, or what anyone thought. He was in heaven. Watching him I felt an intense reminder flooding my heart to slow things down & actually enjoy more of the things that have always brought me joy {instead of being distracted by all the things}. 🌊 I stood up to walk toward FS7, at one point, and looked into a small puddle of water in the sand. I found this tiny starfish. I mean, tiny. How I saw it in the water with other shells around it, I don’t even know. 🌊 Except for this - it fit perfectly with our entire trip to Topsail Island. Stopping to rest & play isn’t ignoring the real life list of stuff to accomplish. Delighting in the simple things that make you happy, rest, and play, all pretty much guarantee your eyes are more open to see the beauty & blessings around you. And better equip you for that list of all the things {that will eventually get done}. 🌊 I’m so grateful for that few hour break and the sweet reminders to slow down & enjoy life {not caring what others think as you woo hoo your way through}. . . . . . . . #1000gifts #boymom #fostercare #adventureswithasevenyearold #simplethings #choosejoy #chasingdreams #simplejoys

I’m a total disaster tonight after some big emotions this week & tonight. I wrote out most of the story for Instagram and ran out of space! I will tell you that tonight, my little guy said among other things: - I don’t know what the best decision is about where I should live. - What will happen to you if I leave? I don’t want you to be all alone. - What if I have to leave & I want to see you? What will I do? - But you might move. How will I find you? . I lost it then. I wish I could say I was composed. I cried. And through my tears I told him he was the sweetest best kid ever. Because you know, he is. ;) . He started crying big tears and finally, after keeping it back for weeks and weeks and months of anxiety about his future, he told me through his tears that he doesn’t want to leave my home. He hasn’t been able to say this in the words he used tonight. I tried to eek out something about praying and trusting God & the judge. But ya’ll, I don’t want him to leave either. . This system is not one I can trust. I can only trust the One who loves my sweet FS7, more than I could possibly grasp. So, FS7 and I are praying for the Judge. . And my heart knows for certain that even if my heart breaks and my sweet boy can’t stay with me, he was worth the broken heart. He deserves unconditional love, safety, and the ability to be a kid. I wrote on my blog today about FS7’s first day of school {tomorrow}. When he came to me in March, he’d had a rough start in 1st grade - including being suspended. It’s hard to imagine that. But circumstances were vastly different in his last home. And he was full of fear and anxiety. And my sweet boy just wanted a safe place to be a kid. • Anyway, there were some firsts last year for me, as a new mama. But getting him ready for this new school year has been extra sweet for me. It truly is a #1000gifts moment. • I pray this year is the start of great things for him - including the stability and permanency he’s longed for, for so long now.
